Man sentenced to life for Lake Butler killing

LAKE BUTLER— A Lake Butler man was sentenced to life plus 70 years after pleading to shooting three people and killing one on Southwest 1st Terrace last year.

Judge Mitchel Bishop sentenced Anthony Lydell George to life for the second-degree murder of Hope William Jr. The judge then tacked on 20 years for aggravated battery with a firearm, 25 years for first-degree attempted murder, and 15 years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All sentences will run concurrently. The state dropped two additional counts of aggravated battery.

According to court papers, the defendant shot and killed Hope William Jr. at a home on Southwest First Terrace on March 19, 2022. He then shot two women, one in the neck and one in the right shoulder. One of the female victims was his common-law wife.

George was arrested eight days after the shooting during a nationwide manhunt.
