Rhoades running for reelection

The following in an announcement of intention to seek public office paid for by the candidate.
To the people of Union County,
It is with great excitement and determination that I announce my candidacy for reelection as your Clerk of Courts & Comptroller, and also express my gratitude for the opportunity to have served you.
Twelve years ago, I left my career in public accounting in pursuit of public service as your Clerk & Comptroller. I ran on my education and experience, and brought a change to the politics in Union County. I have consistently made the difficult choices necessary to safeguard our resources and uphold the public trust, and performed my duty as your Clerk to report improper actions to the proper authorities.
I was surprised by my opponent, as we had a very good working relationship before his resignation. However, every citizen has a right to run for office, and this provides accountability to me as an elected official.
As a Certified Public Accountant, I understand the importance of fiscal integrity. In my twelve years of service, I have confronted tough decisions with unwavering resolve, ensuring that our county’s finances are managed responsibly and transparently. I have used my accounting education and experience to serve the citizens of Union County by working hands-on in the county’s finances, reducing the need for additional staff and increasing efficiencies and saving the taxpayers’ dollars.
The Clerk serves as checks and balances to protect the taxpayers, and is charged with enforcing policies and procedures that the Board puts in place. I have held myself and others to the highest standards, ensuring that our county government operates with honesty, efficiency, and accountability. While I don’t like the turmoil it has created, I stand by my decisions of holding everyone in a leadership role to the highest standards.
The Clerk’s role does not stop with the county finances, but also serves as the County Recorder and Clerk of the Courts. My team and I have worked together to improve processes, and have moved to an entirely paperless system. Last year, we began a project to digitize historical records, enabling citizens to search county records more easily. We have indexed all marriage licenses to the county’s founding in 1921.
But our work is far from over. As your Clerk of Courts & Comptroller, I am dedicated to building upon our progress and advancing initiatives that will benefit all residents of our county. Together, we will continue to make informed decisions, hold ourselves and others accountable, and restore the integrity of Union County’s government.
I am deeply grateful for the trust and support you have shown me thus far, and I humbly ask for your vote once again. With your continued partnership, we will chart a course toward a brighter future for Union County.
Sincerely,
Kellie Hendricks Rhoades, CPA
