MELROSE— The Democratic Women’s Club of the Lakes Area hosted a Walk Against Hate on Sunday, Oct. 10 at Heritage Park in Melrose. The event was one of many across the country organized by the Anti-defamation League.
Democratic Women’s Club President Cheryl Owen introduced the speakers to a receptive crowd of over 50 people.
Speakers were LaToya Robinson, candidate for Putnam County Commission, Pete Ackerman of Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, Florida Representative Yvonne Hinson, Alachua County Commissioner Marihelen Wheeler, Congressional Candidate Danielle Hawk, and Jyoti Parmar of North Central Florida Indivisible.
Owen said of the event, “I believe we were successful in drawing attention to our goals, showing strength and support in our community for people of all races and backgrounds, that local government matters in our lives, and we need to elect more women.”
