Men fight over speaker

STARKE—Deputies arrested a 24-year-old Hampton man after witnesses said he fought a household member over a large speaker and used the device to strike and injure the victim.

Jarred Tra’kel Mason was arrested for battery on December 29.

According to an arrest report, Mason called law enforcement to the Hampton Lake area to get the speaker back from a woman with whom he lived. He told a deputy that he was returning to Georgia and wanted the device back.

The officer advised Mason that possession of the speaker was a civil matter and left the scene. The deputy later returned after witnesses reported the assault.

Witnesses and the victim said that after Mason’s encounter with the deputy, the defendant demanded the speaker back and fought with the victim over the device. During the fight, Mason struck the victim with the speaker.
