CAMP BLANDING— Florida National Guard officials sent around 40 members of the 54th Security Force Assistance Brigade on an overseas deployment at Camp Blanding on Friday, Feb. 3.
Lt. Col. Patrick Heffernan said the length of the deployment will be around six months, and some of the guardsmen will be sent to Latin America while others will go to Africa.

The departing guardsmen included members of the second battalion, an infantry unit, and the third squadron, a cavalry unit. The guardsmen will serve as military advisors to host countries.
Col. Alexander Harlamor said the guardsmen will train allied partner nations in a myriad of tasks, “anywhere from the establishment of joint operations centers to the treatment of casualties, the employment of small unit tactics or maybe even crisis response management.”
He added that the training will deter foreign aggression, build critical partner capacity and interoperability, and help strengthen U.S. allies’ security objectives across the globe.
