STARKE— On Tuesday, June 7, Florida’s Public Service Commission approved a new area code: 324 for the region now covered by 904, including Starke, Lawtey and Kingsley Lake. The new area code will overlay the existing 904 code.
The PSC said without the change, carriers will run out of 904-area code phone numbers in 2024. Callers with 904-area-code numbers will keep their current numbers. The state agency said it would be a year before new 324 numbers start to be issued.
The change will also require all local calls from landlines to use 10-digit dialing: the area code plus the seven-digit phone number.
