New jail class helps inmates succeed during probation

Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said his office has partnered with the Florida Department of Corrections in a program designed to help jail inmates succeed at probation.

F.A.C.E. I.T. stands for family, attitude, communication, employment, improvement and taking responsibility. Joe Winkler, FDC’s assistant deputy secretary of community corrections, launched the program in 2022 to help state inmates succeed in probation.

Winkler said that each of the six components in the program’s title is essential in completing supervision. He added, for example, that 75% of inmates who successfully complete probation are employed.
