A 34-year-old Melrose woman was sentenced to 18 months’ drug offender probation after pleading to possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
According to an arrest report, Bradford deputies stopped Kaeli Dezaray Jones and another person riding bicycles on U.S. 301 near Duval Chevrolet on October 25, 2023.
“Neither bicycle had front or rear lights,” wrote Detective Andrew Johnson in the report, “therefore creating an unsafe environment for motorists traveling on U.S. Hwy. 301.”
According to Johnson, after he asked the defendant if he could search her bag, Jones dumped its contents onto the sidewalk, and the officer saw a plastic bag containing a white crystal residue.
“When I asked what the white crystal residue was,” wrote the detective in the arrest report, “Jones advised she did not know what it was and that she found the plastic bag inside of a dumpster.”
Johnson reported that he ultimately found two plastic bags with 2.17 grams of methamphetamine.
