Notice of proposed taxes mailed

Area property owners have received their proposed notice of taxes, mailed by each county’s taxing authority.

The notices show taxpayers which taxing authorities are levying taxes on their properties, how much they paid last year, and how much they will pay this year at proposed rates.

The notices also show how much taxpayers would pay at rollback rates: the millage rate that would have raised the same revenue as the previous year for each taxing authority.

Because of increased appraised values and rising millage rates, many homeowners report significantly higher taxes than last year. One City of Starke homeowner said his total property tax is 32% higher this year over 2022.
