
Shirley Drawdy
Shirley Faye Drawdy, 75, of Lake Butler passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Orlando on Aug. 3, 1950, to the late Earl J. Griffis and Edgle Green Griffis. She was one of nine children and was raised in Apopka, Lake Okeechobee, and Orange Lake. She spent the majority of her adult life in Union County, where she built a beautiful life centered around family, her Baptist-rooted faith, and a love for the outdoors. After completing school, she married her best friend and forever companion, Thomas Jerrell Drawdy, on Sept. 6, 1966. Together, they were beyond blessed with five children, seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a great-grandson on the way. From an early age, she developed a deep love and passion for fishing. She found great joy in being outdoors, whether casting a line or simply enjoying nature’s peace. She felt most at home surrounded by the beauty of God’s creations. She also had a remarkable green thumb, took great pride in her flower gardens, and loved to manicure her lawn. Mowing and fresh-cut grass were a great pair. Her yard was always a vibrant display of color and life, a true reflection of her nurturing spirit and love for growing things. When she wasn’t in the yard or on the lake, she was at yard sales yard selling, searching for the best deal she could find. She enjoyed a long and successful career with Publix Supermarkets in Gainesville. She began in the bakery and eventually served as a receiving clerk in the receiving department. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, reliability, and kindness. More than anything, Shirley cherished her family and treasured every precious moment spent with them. Her love and support will continue to guide and inspire those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shelia Drawdy; son, James “Jimmy” Ray Drawdy; three brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Thomas “Tom” Jerrell Drawdy Sr. of Lake Butler; sons, Thomas Jerrell Drawdy Jr. and Steven Quay (Jessica) Drawdy, both of Worthington Springs, and Justin Dean Drawdy of Lake Butler; seven grandchildren, Kayla Drawdy, Quay A. Drawdy, Gavin Thomas (Jessica) Drawdy, Avery Drawdy, Ally Drawdy, Olivia Drawdy, and Abigail Drawdy; great-granddaughter, Lila Kimble; great-grandson on the way, Griffin Drawdy; along with several extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held Thursday, Oct. 23, at Ferreira Funeral Services Lake Butler Chapel with Pastor Terry Elixson Sr. officiating.

Vernon Dukes
Vernon Dukes, 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at North Florida Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. Born Dec. 23, 1942, in Worthington Springs, Vernon lived a life full of hard work. For 40 years, he dedicated himself to the Department of Corrections, where he took pride in his career and truly enjoyed every day he was there. He was a plainspoken man who took great pride in everything he did. Beyond his career, he had a passion for farming. He loved his cows, spending many hours tending to them. His tinkering came in handy when he would find a good deal, especially if it was an antique tractor. If it was a good bargain, you could count on him to strike while the iron was hot. Vernon was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful marriage of 63 years with his beloved wife, Beatrice Dukes. Together, they raised two daughters, Susan White, married to Robert, and Tina Gray, married to Ralph. His family brought him immense joy and pride, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Shawn White, with Summer, Jered White, with Madison, Trista Agner-Hartranft with Deborah, and Sawyer Agner. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Waylon, Brantley, Case, Walker, Ivey, and Archer, and he adored watching them grow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Will and Margie Dukes; as well as his siblings, Betty Cole and Jessie Will Dukes.
A visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. Following visitation, the funeral service took place at the same location. He was laid to rest immediately following the service at Dekle Cemetery.

Richard James
Mr. Richard “Rick” Edwin James, 57, of Starke passed Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, in Gainesville following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 15, 1967, in Callahan to the late George William and Lorraine (Blalock) James. He lived a full life dedicated to his family and work. Rick proudly and honorably served in the United States Army as a M1-A1 Abrams gunner and driver and was recognized for being top in their platoon. Known for his warm spirit, he spent many years as a maintenance worker for Darling Enterprises, where he was appreciated by colleagues and friends alike. He loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, and just spending time with his family.
Rick was a devoted father to his sons, Michael and Marshall, and a proud grandfather to Talan Hunter James, Brooklyn Jessie James, Dayton William James, and Maddison Kathleen Brown. He recently faced the loss of his wife, Angela “Angie” Michelle James, just two months prior, after 31 wonderful years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by his father-in-law, William “Pop-pop” Thomas Stickel Jr., and his siblings, Barbara (David) Terrell, Lori (Bryan) King, and George (Elaine) James. He leaves behind a cherished circle of extended family and friends who will carry his memory with them.

Billy Jarvis
Mr. Billy Jerry Jarvis, 72 of Starke, passed away peacefully in Middleburg following an extended illness. He was born June 8, 1953, in Fries, Virginia to the late Bruce and Marie (Crouse) Jarvis. He proudly served as a Colonel at Florida State Prison, dedicating many years to his career. He was a man of many passions, with woodworking and fishing taking up much of his time outside of work. He was also a member at Bethel Baptist Church on 230A, where he found a strong sense of community and faith. Married to his loving wife, Janie (Pearson) Jarvis, since 1972, their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Cassandra Olson (Mike Mitchell), Heather Jarvis (Shaun In). Billy cherished his role as “Papaw” to his grandchildren, pouring love and wisdom into their lives.
He is survived by his sister, June (Jarvis) Lee and her husband Ricky; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Michael Lee
Mr. Thomas “Michael” Lee, 74 of Keystone Heights passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Middleburg. He was born Sept. 12, 1951, in Jacksonville to the late Amos Thomas and Louise (Peterson) Lee. He honorably served in the National Guard and was a Baptist. He enjoyed Florida Gator football, riding motorcycles, and owned his own race car as a young man. He dedicated his career to the railroad industry, where he was proud to serve as an employee of CSX. He held his work in high regard and often spoke fondly of his experiences on the rails. A graduate of Baldwin High School in 1969, he embodied the spirit of hard work and commitment, values he instilled in his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Becky (Fouraker) Lee of Keystone Heights, children: Misty Lee of Zebulon, North Carolina, Thomas (Shelly) Lee II of Jacksonville, and Sheila Lynn of Baldwin. Also left behind are his siblings, Susan (Tom) McIntyre of Melrose and Jackie (Douglas) Carter of McAlpin. He was lovingly called “Papa” by grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Lynn of Glen St. Mary, Joshua (Jojo) Lynn of Bryceville, Bailee (Dalton) Paris of Clarksville, Tennessee, Autumn (Dorian) Williamson of Honolulu, Hawaii and Brooke Lee and Brynne Lee, both of Jacksonville. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Ansley Lynn, Addison Lynn, Jaxon Lynn, Ally Kat Lynn, and Delilah Paris.
The family received friends Monday, Oct. 20, at DeWitt C. Jones. Memorial services to honor his life were held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with family and friends officiating.

Chesley Robertson
Chesley Michael Robertson was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Natchez, Mississippi and departed this world Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at Windsor Manor Health and Rehab in Starke following an extended illness. His journey of life was notably marked by his dedication to the Department of Corrections, where he worked as both an instructor and director. His influence resonated throughout his career, particularly during his time instructing at Lake City Community College from 1977 to 1981 before assuming the role of director of training until his retirement in 2012. Graduation from Florida State University in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree solidified his foundation of knowledge, which he generously shared with countless individuals seeking guidance. In addition to his professional life, he proudly served in the United States Navy for four years from 1973 to 1977, showcasing his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country. He also cherished the simple joys of life, enjoying moments spent playing chess and fishing. Ever so health conscious, he was an avid runner and took pleasure in working out. Chesley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Margaret “Ginger” Robertson; son, Chesley Hines Robertson IV; and parents, Chesley Hines II and Dana Steinhoff Robertson.
Family always held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his son, Charles “Chad” Robertson; grandchildren, Kaylin Robertson and Chesley Hines “Ley” Robertson V; great-grandchildren, Liliana and Ava Croker; siblings, Kathy, Hines and Jack Robertson; brother-in-law, Chris (Michelle) Fortner, along with their children, Lexi, Michael, and Cameron Fortner.
A visitation will take place Thursday, Oct. 30, from 2:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service to honor his life at 3 p.m., both held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler.
Chesley had a heart that brought compassion and understanding to all and a legacy that will forever inspire those who had the privilege to know him.

Judy Bryant Ryder, 64, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at Windsor Health and Rehab in Starke after an extended illness. Born Oct. 26, 1960, in Lake Butler, Judy lived a life devoted to her family. After graduating from Union County High School in 1978, she dedicated a good portion of her life to loving and nurturing her family. She took great pride in being a single mother, always working hard to provide for her children. She made a lasting impact during her years working in the cafeteria at Lake Butler Middle School, serving up smiles and meals for 30 years before retiring in 2018. She was well-known for her quiet demeanor, but always had her ears perked up to hear all the town gossip. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her remember her fondness for yard sales and bowling. She had a knack for finding treasures wherever she went. She is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her: her father, Randolph Bryant; mother, Wilma Ryder; husband, John Ryder Sr.; and siblings, Christine Dyal, Daniel Bryant, Louise Hall, and Joann Bryant.
Judy’s family includes her beloved son, John Ryder Jr., and his son, John W. Ryder. She was a dedicated mother to her daughter, Lynn Ryder, and her children: Madison, Daniel “Bubba,” and Jonathan Steamer. Her brothers, Jimmy (Debbie) Bryant, Donald (Becky) Bryant, and Frank (Becky) Bryant; along with her sisters, Tammy Suisse and Barbara Ryder, will carry her memory in their hearts, as will her numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Judy at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The visitation will start at 11 a.m., leading into the funeral service at noon.
