STARKE— A 30-year-old Marion County man was sentenced to two years in prison for leading Lawtey police and Bradford deputies on a chase through Lawtey.

Brandon Wilbert Evans pleaded no contest to the Oct. 3, 2021, offense of fleeing and eluding an officer after a crash involving property damage or injury.

According to an arrest report, Lawtey police stopped Evans’s silver Acura for traveling 66 mph in a 35-mph zone.

When Bradford deputies arrived to assist police, Evans led the officers on a high-speed chase on Grove, Adams, Lake and Olive Streets.

During the chase, Evans crashed into the fences of three residences, ran four stop signs and nearly collided with a pickup while attempting to pass the vehicle.

After crashing into a ditch on Grove Street, the defendant fled on foot. He stumbled just before reaching a wooded area and was detained by officers.
