A January 9 fire gutted G’s Barbecue on Blanding Boulevard, putting nine of the eatery’s 10 employees out of work.
The restaurant’s owner, Gary Park, is now converting Starke’s old Pizza Hut near the county courthouse into his newest location while looking for replacement property for his Orange Park operation.
G’s first opened in 2012, near Blanding’s intersection with Knight Boxx Road, featuring slow-cooked barbecue. After the fire, Park said his main concern was finding work for his employees. He held a three-day fundraiser for his workers in March at a Clay County VFW Post to assist them.
The owner added that remodeling and opening the Starke location is the quickest way for him to put his workers back on the payroll.
