Probation for Bealls shoplifting

A Hampton woman was sentenced to 13 days in jail and a year’s probation after pleading to shoplifting in a Starke clothing store.

Kimberly Buhler Baker, 60, pleaded to petit theft. County Judge D. Tatum Davis also ordered her to serve 50 hours of community service, attend an anti-theft class, and have no further contact with Bealls Outlet.

According to an arrest report, a loss prevention officer at the retailer spotted the 60-year-old in the store and called police because of the defendant’s prior thefts at Bealls in Starke and Keystone Heights.

Starke Police Officer Stormi McAdams wrote in the report that she waited outside, and the store employee watched Baker on video. When the Hampton woman exited the store without paying for merchandise, McAdams took the defendant into custody.

“Post Miranda,” the officer wrote, “Kimberly admitted to units and loss prevention that she did put items in her cart that she did not pay for and left the store. The items varied from clothing to accessories. The total value of the items was $301.75 before tax.”

“Kimberly was cooperative and honest regarding her history with shoplifting and the items she took without paying for them,” McAdams added. “She advised there were items that she exchanged, but the majority of the items were items she took without paying for them.”
