Punched man for $20

A Jacksonville man was sentenced to 33 days in jail and a year’s probation after admitting to punching a man after the victim refused to hand over $20.

Nathan Carl Bassett, 38, pleaded to battery and resisting an officer.

According to an arrest report, Bassett woke up the victim while the victim was sleeping in bed and demanded the cash, saying he was owed the money for work he had performed for the victim.

The victim told deputies that he responded by reminding the defendant that he owed the victim money for rent and food. The Lawtey-area resident said Bassett then became angry and struck him in the face and head. According to the victim, Bassett also threatened to kill him if he called law enforcement.
