Report: Robbed Circle K because of $7.50 shortfall

William DJ Emanuel

William DJ Emanuel, 22, of Lawtey, was arrested by Bradford deputies on July 9 for robbery, aggravated assault, and larceny.

According to an arrest report, a clerk at the Circle K at Northwest County Road 225 and Northwest State Road 16, near Northside Baptist Church, told deputies that a man in jeans and a green shirt walked in around 10:40 p.m. on July 8, set an 18-pack of Michelob Ultra on the counter and asked for a pack of 305’s cigarettes. The man put down a $20 bill, the clerk said, but the total came to $27.50.

When the clerk told him the $20 wasn’t enough, the man pulled out a knife, placed it on the counter and said he was taking the items anyway, the report states. He then grabbed the beer and cigarettes, along with his knife and the $20, and rode off on a light blue bicycle. Surveillance video also showed him leaving with a Buzz Ball alcoholic drink the clerk hadn’t noticed he’d taken, deputies said.

Dispatch later relayed a call from a man who said his son had told him Emanuel confessed to robbing the store, according to the report.

Deputies found Emanuel walking his bicycle westbound on Lake Street near Northeast Third Street around 3 a.m. and took him to the sheriff’s office, where investigators say he admitted to the offenses after being read his Miranda rights. He had a cut on the left side of his temple, which he said came from an earlier fight; he declined to be taken to a hospital.
