Save Our Lakes President Vivian Katz James thanked the governing board of the St. Johns River Water Management District for their help as the Black Creek Water Resource Development Project draws to a close.
The lake activist also repeated her observation that the underbrush and trees growing in Lake Geneva’s dry lakebed need attention.
She reminded the board of her organization’s restoration project, which seeks to remove trees from the lakebed before water levels rise due to the Black Creek project.
“Okay, so what was a beautiful lakebed now is a nice lakebed with a lot of forest in it,” she told governing board members. “Literally forest, I think we’re working with the county, with you guys, with the City of Keystone to try to do the Lake Geneva Restoration Project, which is just that restoring, not just doing a little pathway here and whatever.”
Katz James said the county’s Fifth Street boat ramp is totally covered and surrounded by underbrush, making it impossible for boats to get to the water.
“And there are many areas of trees and timber in front of residents,” she continued, “so we’re working on that.”
