Whether it’s your student’s first year or final, Florida’s Sales Tax Holiday beginning next week is the perfect time to stock up on supplies and grab the latest fashions.
The tax exemption holiday lasts from July 25 through Aug. 7. The first day of school for public school students is Aug. 10.
Sales tax will not be collected on the following categories:
—certain clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $100 or less per item.
—certain school supplies selling for $50 or less per item.
—learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less.
—personal computers and related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use with a sales price of $1,500 or less.
Items exceeding these prices are not eligible for full or partial tax exemption.
A full list of exempt items is available at . For example, general sports equipment, duffle bags and umbrellas are not exempt, but backpacks, baseball cleats and bicycle helmets are. Exemptions for school supplies do not include printer paper or correction tape/fluid/pens. They do include binders, calculators, crayons, glue, markers, notebooks, pencils and pens, rules and scissors.
There are some overlapping exemption periods to be aware of. The exemption on children’s book for ages 12 and under, which began May 14, will extend through Aug. 14.
Sales tax on children’s diapers, baby and toddler clothing, apparel and footwear will not be collected through June 30, 2023.
