Search continues for missing kayaker

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said its officers and Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing to search Lake Santa Fe for a missing boater.

FWC said in a statement that on Wednesday, January 1, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the two agencies and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of a man missing from a kayak on Lake Santa Fe in Melrose.

The agencies immediately began their search, continuing through the night into the early hours of January 2.

FWC said its officers and Alachua deputies resumed the search at 6:00 a.m. on Jan. 2.

“The search remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time,” the state agency added.
