The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it had found the body of a kayaker who went missing on Lake Santa Fe on January 1.
“On January 3,” the agency said in a statement, “around 12:00 p.m., the FWC dive team used sonar equipment to locate and recover the victim approximately 300 yards from the spot where he was last seen. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
The state agency added that its investigation into the incident continues.
In an earlier news release, FWC said that on Wednesday, January 1, at approximately 7:15 p.m., its officers, Alachua County deputies, and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of a man missing from a kayak. The agencies established a command center at Melrose Bay Park to search for the boater.
