LAKE BUTLER — Last year the Union County Public Library began hosting programming for local seniors known as the Senior Social Club. On the first and fourth Tuesday at 10am each month the group comes together at the Union County Public Library for a couple of hours to enjoy a wide variety of programs. Some of the fun activities include playing Bingo, Wheel of Fortune and other fun games, learning cool life hacks, having various presenters and musicians attend, creating awesome crafts and much more. All seniors and adults are welcome to attend this fun, energetic group.
Most recently, the library hosted an ensemble that played bluegrass gospel tunes for all to enjoy. Martin Feagle, Tracy Weaver and Roy Witcher all traveled from North Florida and Georgia to entertain at the senior program.
Coming up on April 5 at 10am, a very special speaker, Bob Stone is lined up to present at the library. Mr. Stone is a Florida Historian and independent folklorist and media producer based in Gainesville. Stone is the winner of the Florida Folk Heritage Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a lifelong advocate of the folk arts and folk artists of Florida. He specializes in the history and culture of the nation’s oldest cattle ranching state. See and hear all aspects of Florida cattle ranching traditions.
“We are very excited to have Bob Stone here. This program is not just for the seniors in our area. Anyone is welcome to attend this free event,” said Mary Brown, Library Director. “The library was able to book Bob Stone through a Florida Humanities grant.”
Other upcoming fun programs for the Senior Social Club include:
April 26 – An outdoor picnic where the seniors will play cornhole, disc golf and horse shoes.
May 3 – Heart Health program by the Health Department along with heart healthy snacks
May 24 – A local jam session with Denise Crawford and friends
June 7 – Crafting with Mrs. T
June 28 – Cooking with Chef Warren
All Union County seniors are encouraged to come to the library and participate in this program designed with them in mind.
