STARKE— A registered sex offender who was caught with drugs during a Starke Police Department raid at the Budget Inn was sentenced to 42 months in prison.

Javares Lamar Barnes, 41, of Starke pleaded no contest to the July 26 offenses of failure of a sexual offender to report a residence change, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Starke Police said the raid on the motel was part of its “Operation Problem Solver” which also included arrests on North Pine Street.

Arresting officer Johnathon Guinn wrote in an arrest report that when searching the room, officers found methamphetamine taped underneath a chair and in a hollowed-out screwdriver.   They also found oxycodone, Xanax, buprenorphine and cocaine in the room.

Hunter Redding wrote in a separate arrest report that Barnes, who was listed in the FDLE sexual offender data base as residing in Hampton, had been living at the inn.
