A sexual offender registered as a Portland, Oregon, resident was sentenced to three years after admitting to moving to Starke and failing to register as required by law.

Gordon Miller, III, 36, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on September 12, 2025. He pleaded to failing to register as a sexual offender on January 7.

According to an arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the Whispering Oaks apartments on South Water Street regarding a disturbance. While investigating, an officer was informed by another individual at the scene that one of the men present, Miller, was a sex offender.

The defendant initially provided an Arizona ID card that did not indicate his status. However, a deputy conducted a further search of law enforcement databases, which confirmed he was required to register. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s sex offender database listed an address for Miller in Portland, Oregon.

The investigation revealed that Miller had been living in Bradford County for approximately two months without registering with the sheriff’s office, a violation of state law. His partner confirmed their two-month residency at Whispering Oaks.

After being read his Miranda Rights, Miller declined to speak with deputies.

The defendant’s prior convictions include domestic battery, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis, sexual battery on an adult without force, petit theft and battery.
