Shaw wins event for KHHS at Clay County Track and Field Championships

Kiersten Shaw won one event and was runner-up in another for the Keystone Heights High School track and field teams at the Clay County Championships on March 9 at Middleburg High School.

Shaw took first in the long jump with a distance of 4.95 meters and placed second in the high jump at 1.48 meters, which left her trailing Fleming Island’s Gabrielle Flories, who cleared 1.53.

In the 100m hurdles, Shaw was fourth with a time of 17.50 seconds.

Shepherd Rozier earned a runner-up finish for the boys team, running the 400m in 53 seconds. Oakleaf’s Josber Stimphil won the event with a time of 52.70.

Rozier also placed eighth in the 200m with a time of 23.80 and 10th in the long jump with a distance of 5.46.

The girls team got a fifth-place finish from Alexis Taylor in the high jump (1.43) and a sixth-place finish in the 4100m relay, with Elizabeth Hogan, Grace Fisher, Laila Briseno and Bethany Burgess teaming up to run one minute.

Brianna Hogan placed seventh in the high jump (1.38) and just missed the top 10 with an 11th-place finish in the long jump (3.97).

Elizabeth Hogan was 11th in the 400m (1:13), while Marissa Dowell and Burgess placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the long jump with distances of 3.94 and 3.88.

The girls team also had the following results: 100m — Ashly McCarthy 14.30, Dowell 14.90, Candace Jackson 15.60; 200m — Christine Djavaheri 30.50, Taylor 30.50, Jackson 32.40, Briseno 32.80; 400 — Tinleigh Gubics 1:15.30, Fisher 1:15.60, Brook Graudons 1:17; and 100m hurdles — Djavaheri 21.58.

The boys team got a fifth-place finish from Trey Jeffries in the discus (32.37) and a fifth-place finish in the 4400m relay, with Jaden Park, Tyler Griffin, Rozier and Bryce Miller teaming up to run 3:49.

Ayden Graff placed seventh in the 3200m (11:29), while Griffin was eighth in the 800m (2:10) and ninth in the 1600m (5:00).

Jeffries was eighth in the shot put (11.04), while Miller was eighth in the long jump (5.79).

Park was 11th in the long jump (5.45), while Bryson Wester was 12th in the discus (26.63).

Hunter Sheppard and Park placed 13th and 14th, respectively, in the 1600m with times of 5:16 and 5:17.

Jacob Stahman earned a 15th-place finish in the 800m (2:19).

The boys team also had the following results: 100m — Miller 12.30, Hunter Chamberlain 14.0; 400m — Josiah Durrenberger 58.10, Tyler Sapp 60.0; 800m — Hunter Sheppard 2:24, Durrenberger 2:29; long jump — Chamberlain 4.56; shot put — Tyler Duncan 7.98, Joshua Blank 7.67, Jackson Herman 7.31; and discus — Herman 21.26, Duncan 21.19.
