Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook was recognized by the President and invited to speak at the White House Women’s History Month event.

The event on Thursday, March 12.

On that same day, President Trump issued a proclamation celebrating Women’s History Month.

“Women’s History Month, we celebrate the extraordinary American women of our past and the titans of our present who have strengthened our families, enriched our culture, defended our values, pioneered our industries, and shaped our glorious future.”

“Today is an outstanding female law enforcement officer, Michelle Cook, from Clay County, Florida,” said Trump.

Cook has six children and a husband. Her family comes from a military background. She has served as Sheriff for six years and has been in law enforcement for 35 years.

“She’s done a great job, and maybe more importantly, because she’s a great mom, I think you’re a great mom, so thank you very much,” Trump said.

Cook recognized Trump’s no-tax-on-overtime law, which allows for $12,500 per individual and up to $25,000 back in the pockets of hardworking Americans who put in overtime.

“There are two topics that I know very well: raising a child and serving my community. It is an honor to serve my community alongside you,” Cook said.

The sheriff emphasized the safety of the county, saying to Trump, “Mr. President, the only place safer than Washington is going to be Clay County, Florida.”

“A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be introduced by the President of the United States at the White House….and then be given an opportunity to speak,” she added on her Facebook post.

First Lady Melania Trump was also recognized and spoke to the group attending the event.

“As a visionary, I know success is not born overnight but rather takes shape after a long and sometimes challenging process. Often alone at the top, I follow my passion, listen to my instinct, and always maintain a laser focus, be courageous, and take risks,” the first lady told People magazine.

According to the President, “Our capital is now considered, in fact, here’s the stat, the safest capital anywhere in the world.”
