Sheriff unveils Clay Watch

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook announced a special needs registry for family members that can supply critical information to the sheriff’s office about loved ones prone to wander.

Clay Watch is a voluntary registry that allows residents to supply the office with identifying information, a photo, and information about disabilities, special needs, or medical needs of a person who may go missing in the future.

“This initiative is particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism, traumatic brain injury, or any other special needs, physical or disabilities,” the office said in an announcement.

The sheriff’s office added that information about individuals will be kept securely at its office and accessed only when necessary to find a missing or wandering person.

“When you register,” the agency said, “the sheriff’s office will provide you with a vinyl decal to place on or near your front door. This information is crucial during emergencies, as it enables our deputies to respond quickly and effectively, ensuring the safety of community members. It equips deputies with important information about potential challenges faced by individuals, aiding in their identification and reuniting them with their loved ones, especially in critical situations.”
