KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— The Clay County Sheriff’s Office participated in the National Night Out campaign, setting up tents at Keystone Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and at other locations throughout the county.
Deputy Dimitri Santiago, who ran the Keystone Heights outreach, said the office partnered with other Lake Region businesses and nonprofits such as Legacy Home Health Care and the Keystone Heights Women’s Club, to produce the event.
“We’re out here to show the kids that we deputies are here for you; don’t be afraid of us,” he said. “A lot of kids see us when they are having bad encounters. This is an opportunity to provide services to them and show them a good time.”
The effort was part of the National Night Out movement: a nationwide community-building campaign that fosters police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Law enforcement agencies across the country typically produce block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events and other activities during the day.
