STARKE— A 55-year-old Starke man turned himself in after he shot a 35-year-old Central Florida man over a $200 football game wager.
Jimmy Lamar Hankerson was arrested on Dec. 8 for the Dec. 7 offenses of homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to an arrest report, the shooting occurred shortly before midnight, after Hankerson and the victim: Jermaine “Jit” Stewart fought over a wager made on the Florida-Georgia football game.
A witness told deputies that Hankerson owed the Central Florida man the money, and the two argued over the bet.
“A physical altercation occurred between Hankerson and Stewart,” wrote arresting officer Kimberly Mosely in the report. “Hankerson pulled a firearm and shot Stewart three times.”
The victim was transported to UF Shands in critical condition. At press time, Col. Brad Smith of the sheriff’s office said the victim remained hospitalized.
