Charmil Spooner, a Bradford High School graduate, was recently honored as part of the Howard University women’s basketball team, which was inducted into the Howard University Athletics Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony was held Oct. 16 in Greenbelt, Maryland.

From 1996 through 1999, the Howard women’s basketball team won four Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships. It was a notable time for the program as the Lady Bison defeated such major-conference teams as Maryland, Minnesota and North Carolina State and had players earn multiple first-team all-conference honors and player-of-the-year awards.

In 2024, members of those teams reunited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Howard basketball, with a goal of raising $50,000 in support of the program. They ended up presenting the university president and athletic director with a gift of $100,000.

Spooner currently works in sports medicine as an athletic trainer.
