Stafford, Griffis show championship swine

Matthew Stafford exhibited the grand champion and homegrown grand champion in the March 4 Bradford-Union Swine Show. His 275-pound animal sold for $36 per pound.

Matthew Stafford of Bradford FFA and Ally Griffis of Bradford 4-H exhibited the grand champion and reserve grand champion, respectively, at the Bradford-Union Swine Association show on March 4 at the Bradford Agricultural Fair.

Stafford’s pig, which was the Class I winner, also earned the homegrown grand championship. His prizes were sponsored by Bradford Community Coalition, Bradford County Farm Bureau, Collins Lawn Care, Preston and Elizabeth Nazworth and Traci Waters Photography.

Griffis also earned the homegrown reserve grand championship for her Class IV winner. Her prizes were sponsored by Bradford Community Coalition, Bradford County Farm Bureau and the Roberts Companies.

Other class winners were Kyndall Dyal of Bradford 4-H in Class II, Weston Thompson of Union FFA in Class III, Kayleigh Dyal of Bradford 4-H in Class V, Ryder Thompson of Bradford FFA in Class VI, Piper Denmark of Bradford 4-H in Class VII, Gage Fischer of Bradford 4-H in Class VIII, Ella Hewett of Bradford FFA in Class IX and Kierston Clemons of Union FFA in Class X.

The third-overall pig behind Stafford’s grand champion and Griffis’ reserve grand champion belonged to Rylan Noegel (Bradford 4-H), who received prizes sponsored by Ink and Thread Graphics.

Ryder Thompson (Bradford FFA) exhibited the fourth-overall pig and received prizes sponsored by Ink and Thread Graphics, while Denmark exhibited the fifth-overall pig and received prizes sponsored by Casee Gay.

Ryder Thompson placed first in senior showmanship, followed by Ella Hewett in second and Stafford in third. Lawtey Feed and Seed sponsored the first-place prize in remembrance of Danny Thomas. Spires IGA of Lake Butler and Clyatt Well Drilling sponsored the second- and third-place prizes, respectively.

Crawford’s Show Pigs and DLP Bank sponsored the first-place intermediate showmanship prizes, which went to Avery Gardner (Bradford FFA). Aubrey Hewett (Bradford 4-H) received the second-place prize, sponsored by Bradford County Tax Collector Teresa Phillips, while Dempsey Bradley (Bradford 4-H) received the third-place prize, sponsored by Bradford County Farm Bureau.

Preston Fischer (Bradford 4-H) placed first in junior showmanship, receiving prizes sponsored by Mosley Tire and Thompson’s Show Pigs. Sheffield Pest Control sponsored the second-place prize, which went to Beau Davis (Bradford 4-H), while Ink and Thread Graphics sponsored the third-place prize, which went to Ruby Hunter (Bradford 4-H).

Trevor Clements (Bradford FFA) placed first in the senior skill-a-thon, followed by Cayden Carter (Bradford FFA) and Jaden “Chop” Hankerson (Bradford FFA), who placed second and third, respectively.

Ally Griffis exhibited the reserve grand champion and homegrown reserve grand champion in the March 4 Bradford-Union Swine Show. Her 265-pound animal sold for $30 per pound at the March 7 sale.

Cade Caines (Bradford 4-H) and Weston Thompson were first and second, respectively, in intermediate skill-a-thon, with Mason Stone (Bradford FFA) placing third.

In junior skill-a-thon, Branton Clements (Bradford 4-H) placed first, followed by Noegel in second and Cooper Cox (Bradford 4-H) in third.

First place in Bradford High School record book went to Summer Sutton. Lakelyn Sheppard and Trevor Clements were second and third, respectively.

Codi Huntley placed first in Union County High School record book, followed by Clemons in second and Grace Turknett in third.

In Lake Butler Middle School record book, Gracelyn McGee was first, while Madelyn Feltner and Keaton Garrett were second and third, respectively.

Bradford Middle School record-book results will be announced at the FFA banquet.

Gage Fischer was presented with the Workhorse Award, while Davis was recognized for always offering his help and asking fellow participants how they did and where they placed.

The Bradford-Union Swine Association presented scholarships to graduating seniors Clemons of Union County High School and Cody Spratlin of Bradford High School.
