Street closing near school for sewer project

A multiphase rehabilitation project on Starke’s wastewater collection system on West Washington Street will soon disrupt traffic patterns around Bradford High School on school and game days.

On Aug. 28, contractors will begin staging equipment and materials in the area, The first phase will begin sometime that week, requiring the westbound lane of Washington Street to be closed for two to three weeks.

Eastbound Washington Street will remain accessible at all times during Phase I. The school will, however, be shifting parent drop-off and pickup to Adkins Street.

The next two phases involve the full closures of Grand and MacMahon streets, but not at the same time. Each street closure will last about a week and a half, but no closures will be allowed to affect the annual Homecoming parade scheduled for Sept. 29.

The final phase, lasting another two to three weeks, will be a complete shutdown of Washington Street from Orange Street to just west of the bus loop entrance. Buses will access Washington via Grand Street.
