Megan Sullivan hurled a four-hit shutout as the Union County High School softball team closed the regular season by defeating visiting Gainesville 3-0 on April 28.
The Tigers (16-4) are the top seed in the District 5-1A tournament, which will be played at Hilliard High School. Union has a first-round bye and will face either fourth-seed Bradford or fifth-seed Hamilton County in a semifinal game on Tuesday, May 3, at 4 p.m.
Nyasia Williams gave the Tigers the only run they’d need against Gainesville, hitting a one-out home run in the fourth inning.
Union added two more runs in the fifth on a Hailey Rivera single.
Williams and Angela Tucker each went 2 for 3.
In the circle, Sullivan gave up just two walks in the complete-game effort.
The Tigers entered the game off another strong performance from Sullivan in a 4-0 win over visiting Columbia on April 26.
Sullivan pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two hits and three walks, while striking out seven.
Lily Neal faced the final two batters, giving up one hit.
Leah Clark hit a two-run homer with two outs in the third. The long ball scored Tucker, who reached on an error.
Clark finished with the two RBI, while Tucker and McKenzie Clemons each had one. Clemons, who hit two doubles, went 2 for 3, while Tucker went 2 for 4 with a triple.
Tamia Young also hit a triple, going 2 for 4.
