Jay Cohen, a recent Union County High School graduate, received first-team small-school honors with the release of the Gainesville Sun’s all-area baseball teams, while two of his teammates were second-team selections.
Cohen, an outfielder, batted .379 with six doubles, four home runs and 21 RBI.
Rising seniors Ayden Elixson and Tre’Von Lee were second-team picks. Elixson, an outfielder, batted .328 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 17 RBI, while Lee, an infielder, batted .351 with two doubles, two triples, one home run and 18 RBI.
The Sun also released its all-area boys track and field teams, with recent UCHS graduate Malcolm Odum being named to the second team. Odum earned two medals at the Class 2A state finals, placing eighth in the 200m with a time of 21.75 and eighth in the 400m with a time of 49.24.
At the district level, Odum won the 200m with a time of 22.47 and placed third in the 400m with a time of 49.83.
Odum was then the Region 1 runner-up in the 200m with a time of 21.65, while placing fourth in the 400m with a time of 48.89.
