The Gainesville Sun released its All-Area teams for fall sports, with Keystone Heights High School’s Candace Jackson and Union County High School’s Jaycee Davis earning first-team honors in their respective sports.
Jackson, a senior, was an All-Area selection in girls golf. She won the individual District 3-1A championship for the second straight year with an 18-hole score of 77 and placed 16th at the Region 1 finals with a score of 85. Jackson had Keystone’s top score in every match and earned overall first place in four matches. She was the overall runner-up in six matches.
Davis, a senior, was a Small-School All-Area selection in volleyball at the position of outside hitter. She recorded 372 kills, 355 digs and 61 service aces — all team highs — in helping the Tigers to the most wins in program history (20) and District 6 and Region 3 championships in Class 1A.
Keystone had two volleyball players receive second-team honors in the Big School category: senior outside hitter Kamryn Eatmon and senior libero Jules Padgett. Eatmon had a team-high 174 kills as well as 47 aces (second on the team), while Padgett had a team-high 258 digs.
Union freshman Eva Whitehead was named to the Gainesville Sun’s All-Area girls swimming team. Whitehead was the District 1-1A runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17 and third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.63. At the Region 1 finals, she was seventh in the 100 backstroke (59.14) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:13). She earned at-large state berths in each event.
Whitehead finished her season with a 20th-place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.35) and 23rd-place finish in the 200 IM (2:13) at state.
Among Gainesville Sun coverage-area girls swimmers, Whitehead recorded the second-fastest 200 IM time and third-fastest 100 backstroke time.
This marked the first year UCHS had student-athletes compete in the sport of swimming.
