FLEMING ISLAND— Superintendent David Broskie said during an Aug. 4 school board meeting that Clay County Public Schools ranked ninth in the state overall and ninth in English language Arts and Math according to student test scores.
“I want to emphasize the quality of work that happens within Clay County schools,” Broskie said. “I can’t say that enough and will continue to say that every chance I get.”
The superintendent added that the district ranked fifth in fifth and eighth-grade science, third in biology, seventh in civics, and fourth in U.S. History.
Broskie singled out last year’s sixth-grade students, who ranked third in the state in both math and English Language Arts.
“I put some pressure on the junior high principles to say: Hey, you’ve got a pretty good group coming up, those are the sixth graders that will now be seventh graders this year, 23 points above the state average in math, 12 points above the state average in ELA,” he said.”
