Thompson running for Bradford County Commission

Kenny Thompson

The following is a paid announcement of intent to seek public office submitted by the candidate. The deadline for all submissions has passed. To advertise, please call 904-964-6305 or email [email protected].

To the citizens of Bradford County District 2, my name is Kenneth (Kenny) Ray Thompson and I am seeking reelection for Bradford County Commissioner in District 2. I was born and raised in Bradford County; my father is the late Kenneth (Buddy) Thompson and my mother is Ms. Helen Thompson of Starke.

I have been married 43 years to my high school sweetheart, Nora Starling Thompson, and we have raised two sons Allen Thompson (Vanessa) and Kevin Thompson (Elizabeth) both of Lawtey and have four grandsons. I am a member and attend Christ Church of Starke (formerly known as Laura Baptist Church).

I graduated from Bradford High School in 1978 and began my working career at Gilman Paper Company where I retired after 20 years to start Thompson’s Garage, which I have owned and operated for 24 years.

I believe my experience in serving the public, building and managing a successful family-owned business though some of the toughest economic times more than qualifies me for this position.

I am running for reelection as your county commissioner to continue to make our county government more efficient. Over the last eight years we have created a fantastic management team and we deliver services to our citizens more efficiently than ever before.

I would like the opportunity to return as your commissioner to work with this team of goal oriented, technically competent professionals. And to continue to make you, the taxpayers, the financial winners in Bradford County.

I have experience and training that no other candidate offers. I look forward to using my skills developed over decades of management, to work with our county staff to deliver services to the taxpayer at the lowest possible cost, making Bradford County taxpayers the financial winners!

The county infrastructure is coming along well. I have worked with our many departments to create a very diverse and competent workforce. Worked with the elected and appointed leaders to create the much-needed public safety radio network for emergency response that we upgraded, and has full functionality across the county.

While serving as your commissioner, we have paved and resurfaced approximately 22 miles of county roads.

I have made it a priority to work with federal (USDA) agencies, our local water management district and many other local leaders to mitigate flooding issues that have created many disasters in the past.

I take every opportunity I can to improve public safety. The County Fire & Rescue are smoothly and accurately run by Chief Ben Carter. Our public safety staff and our first responders throughout the county give heroically every day, and are very highly rated and respected statewide.

The county recreation facilities improve each year, by design, as well as upgrading bathroom facilities and play areas.

I am a reliable, efficient worker that will work hard for the citizens of District 2 and work alongside my fellow commissioners as a team for the betterment of our County. The people of Bradford County have been wonderful to me, my family and my business, and it has been an honor and privilege to serve as your County Commissioner, District 2 for the past eight years.

I feel the accomplishments have been positive in the last eight years, with many things still in the process to be accomplished, and I am still excited to build this county up in every way. With your help and your support, we will continue to move forward in trying to better our county. I would be honored to continue to serve as your County Commissioner for District 2.

I respectfully ask for your vote in the August 23 primary, and it only happens if you turn out to vote!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 904-782-3232.

A proven voice for Bradford County.

Thank you, Kenny
