Union County High School’s baseball team came up short of playing for the District 6-Rural championship when it was defeated 4-2 by Branford in the tournament’s semifinal round, but the Tigers get another shot at Branford — this time with the right to play for the Region 3 championship on the line.

The Tigers (12-14) will host Branford (21-7) in the first two games of a best-of-three Region 3 semifinal series at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, and Tuesday, April 29. If a third game is necessary, it will be played at Branford on Thursday, May 1.

The Tigers earned the second seed in Region 3 behind top seed Lafayette. Branford, which lost 4-1 to Lafayette in the District 6 championship game, is the third seed.

If Union wins the series, it will play Lafayette or fourth seed Aucilla Christian for the Region 3 championships. The first two games of that series will be played on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6, with the higher seed hosting. If a third game is necessary, it will be hosted by the lower seed on Thursday, May 8.
