Tigers defeat Dixie, improve to 4-0 in volleyball

Jaycee Davis recorded 20 kills, while Kamryn Southerland had 20 assists to lead the Union County High School volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23) win over Dixie County on Aug. 30 in Cross City.

Union (4-0) also got 11 and 10 digs, respectively, from Davis and Southerland.

Jurney Crim led the Tigers in digs with 18, while Jordan Hendricks and Emily Wilson had 12 and eight, respectively. Jailyn Simmons tallied 10 kills, while Wilson had six.

Hendricks and Crim had 11 and seven assists, respectively. Crim also had six service aces, while Hendricks had three.

The Tigers entered the match having played their first District 6-1A opponent. The result was a 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-17) win over Lafayette on Aug. 29 in Mayo.

Hendricks and Southerland recorded 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Hendricks also had eight digs, while Southerland had seven.

Davis was the attacks leader with 18 kills, which complemented her 15 digs, seven aces and four blocks. Wilson, who recorded a team-high 21 digs, had 10 kills, while Simmons had eight kills to go along with three blocks.

Crim had 12 digs.

Union hosts district opponent Bell on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m.
