Tigers get 1st- and 2nd-place finishes from Bethea, Diston

Union County High School competed at a mini track and field meet at Oak Hall on April 2, with Amia Bethea winning the girls 200m and Dayquan Diston finishing as runner-up in the boys 200m.

Bethea ran a time of 26.12 in the sprint, while Diston had a time of 23.2.

The boys 200m also included the Tigers’ Bobo Woodall running a fifth-place time of 24.1.

Union earned a third-place finish in the boys 4x400m relay, with Blake McCoy, Brycen Boney, Bo Thomas and Gavin Smith teaming up to run a time of 3:43.

Thomas ran a fourth-place time of 53.34 in the 400m, while McCoy had a ninth-place time of 55.43.

McCoy placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 19-1.5, while Matthew Rogers was seventh in the discus with a distance of 86-7.25.

The boys team had three 10th-place finishes: Woodall in the 100m (11.93), C.J. Ivey in the discus (83-8) and Dillon Lane in the shot put (33-9).

Union also had the following boys results: 200m — Michael Hill 26.54, Ashton Bunkley 29.56; 400m — Boney 58.04; 800m — Smith 2:15, Hill 2:24; 1600m — Bunkley 6:02; discus — Edward Durant 51-9.25; and shot put — Jacob Jenkins 31-9.5, Anthony Holmes 30-2.25.

The girls team got a sixth-place finish from Taleya Smith, who had a distance of 27-6 in the shot put.

Tierra Williams was ninth in the 100m with a time of 13.82.

Other girls results: 100m — Holly Halfacre 14.55; 200m — Williams 29.73, Halfacre 30.61, Daina Smith 35.36; 800m — Makenzie Ring 2:58; long jump — Halfacre 13-7; discus — Briena Haight 53-3.75, Smith 46-0.25, Ja’Kari Hill 41-10; and shot put — Haight 23-11.5, Mari Williams 22-6.75.
