Union County High School’s baseball team was held to two hits in a 2-0 loss to Class 2A University Christian on April 12 in Lake Butler.
The Class 1A Tigers (10-11) struck out 10 times against Austin Pickett, who gave up no walks. One of Union’s hits was a double by Riggs Davis.
Erick Lasseter started on the mound for Union, allowing the two runs on nine hits and no walks through five innings.
Clayton Poppell and Preston Bonsall each pitched one innings, with Poppell giving up two hits and no walks and Bonsall giving up no hits and no walks. Bonsall had two strikeouts.
University scored its first run in the first on a double and a sacrifice fly.
Lasseter held the visitors scoreless over the next three innings. University then added its final run in the fifth on a single and a double.
The Tigers host Class 4A Taylor County on Tuesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. and will travel to play Class 1A Lafayette on Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. Union then hosts Class 3A Bradford on Tuesday, April 23, at 6 p.m.
