Three players drove in multiple runs each as Union County High School opened the softball season with a 16-1 win over visiting Eastside on Feb. 20.
The game lasted only three innings, with Union scoring 13 runs in the first. Two of those came on a double by Leigh Ann Dicks, while the Tigers also scored on four errors, four passed balls and two bases-loaded walks.
Jaydin Alvarez had three RBI, while Mackenzie Orton, who hit a triple, had two.
Emma Handley, who hit a double, and Brooke Hunt each had one RBI.
Starting pitcher Shyla Crowe gave up one run on one hit and one walk through two innings. She had six strikeouts.
Makenzie Radford pitched the final inning, giving up no hits and striking out three.
The Tigers host Branford on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. and will take part in the Santa Fe High School Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2. Union then travels to play Buchholz on Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m.
