Union County High School’s volleyball team bounced back from its season-opening loss to Baker County, defeating host Lafayette 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23) on Aug. 24.
Jailyn Simmons and Layla Barber recorded 14 and 13 kills, respectively, with Simmons also leading the team with five blocks and four service aces.
Kamryn Southerland and Jordan Hendricks had 18 and 16 assists, respectively, while Jurney Crim led the team in digs with 23. Bella Johns and Southerland added 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Tigers also got eight kills from Indi Knox and two blocks from De’ashia Gainer.
Union (1-1) opened the season with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-12) loss at Baker County on Aug. 22. Southerland had nine assists and six digs, while Barber and Simmons each had five kills.
Crim recorded seven digs, while Hendricks and Johns each had five.
The Tigers host Bradford on Monday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m.
