Tigers sweep Dixie County for 6th win in a row

Union County High School’s volleyball continued to roll after last losing on Sept. 20, defeating visiting Dixie County 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-16) on Oct. 4 for its sixth straight win.

The ninth-ranked Class 1A Tigers (16-5) got 17 kills, seven digs and five service aces from Jaycee Davis. Davis ranks second in 1A in total kills with 299, while she’s sixth in total digs (281) and ninth in total aces (52). Her number of total kills ranks her fifth in the entire state, regardless of classification.

Kamryn Southerland contributed 14 assists and 11 digs. Her 290 total assists this year ranks her eighth in Class 1A.

Emily Wilson and Jurney Crim had 10 and eight digs, respectively, while Jordan Hendricks had seven digs to go along with 10 assists.

Jailyn Simmons added six kills and two blocks, while Rylie Parrish had five kills.

The Tigers entered the match off a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-23) win over visiting Trenton on Oct. 3. Davis had 17 kills and 11 digs, while Wilson had six kills and seven digs.

Hendricks and Southerland had 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Hendricks also had six digs and two aces, while Southerland added five digs.

Simmons recorded seven blocks to go along with three aces, while Crim had nine digs and three aces.

Union also got two blocks from Morgyn Kirby and five kills from Parrish.

The Tigers host Williston in their annual Dig-Pink breast cancer-awareness match on Tuesday, Oct. 11.  The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity teams at 6:30 p.m.

Union travels to play Class 4A Keystone Heights on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m, following a 5:30 p.m. JV match. Keystone was the team that Union lost to before its current winning streak began.
