Union County High School had six wrestlers go 3-0 (including wins by forfeiture) in defeating Bishop Snyder, Beachside and finally Baker County to capture the District 4-1A duals championship on Jan. 3 in Lake Butler.
The Tigers began the tournament with an 82-0 win over Bishop Snyder, with six wrestlers winning their weight classes by pinning their opponents: Kale Waters (113 class), Jonathan Howard (120), Braden Adams (126), Rodney Barnett (145), Dante Johnson (152) and Colin Hadlock (160).
Danny Thornton (195) won by a 16-3 major decision, while the following earned wins due to Bishop Snyder forfeiting weight classes: Aidan Hancock (106), Ian Halfacre (132), Ethan Shea (138), Trenton Klein (170), Alexander Cortese (182), Dylan Lane (220) and Ephriam Frometa (285).
Union defeated Beachside 58-21 to advance to the championship match. The following accounted for 42 points by virtue of pinning their opponents: Waters, Halfacre, Johnson, Hadlock, Thornton, Lane and Frometa.
Howard defeated his opponent by an 11-3 major decision, while Shea and Klein earned wins by forfeitures.
The Tigers captured the championship trophy with a 48-34 win over Baker County. The following all won by pinning their opponents: Howard, Halfacre, Shea, Barnett, Cortese, Thornton, Lane and Frometa.
Beachside and Tocoi Creek placed third and fourth, respectively, behind Union and Baker. The tournament also included Baldwin, Interlachen, Keystone Heights and Palatka.
