Bradford High School’s baseball team scored five runs in the fourth inning in defeating visiting Middleburg 6-2 on March 16 for its third straight win.
The Tornadoes (4-6) got solid outings from pitchers Matthew Stafford and Cason Pilcher. Stafford threw the first two innings, giving up one run on one hit and no walks, while Pilcher finished it out, giving up one run on four hits and two walks. Pilcher struck out five.
Luke Stucky drove in the game’s first run to put Bradford ahead 1-0 after one inning.
Middleburg held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. The Tornadoes loaded the bases on singles by Pilcher and Breion Johnson and a walk drawn by Kevin Crawford. Ryder Thompson and Jeffrey Brugh each drew a walk to force a run in before Kacen Thomassen hit an RBI single. Stucky hit a ground ball that the Broncos would eventually turn into a double play to get out of the inning, but not before an error allowed two runs to score.
Bradford travels to play Columbia on Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m.
