STARKE— A Hampton man who tried to keep his girlfriend out of jail is now facing a possible five years in prison after he allegedly threatened a deputy.
Caleb Thomas Scoville, 30, was arrested for threatening death or serious bodily harm to a law enforcement officer and resisting or obstructing an officer without violence.
According to an arrest report, the defendant drove his vehicle to a Hampton residence while Bradford deputies were conducting a search of the home.
During the search, deputies arrested Deena Crawford, Terry Crawford and Brandon Hagan on drug and child neglect charges.
Reporting officer Sgt. Jared Mallard wrote in the report that after Scoville drove up to the search scene, he and Lt. Mikey Sweeney approached the 30-year-old.
“(The defendant) stated, ‘Why was my girlfriend going to jail?’”, wrote Mallard. “Lt. Sweeney informed him that this was an ongoing investigation and that he needed to leave the area.”
“Scoville refused to leave and stated that ‘she was not going to jail,’” reported Mallard, adding that Scoville became argumentative and irate.
Mallard wrote that Scoville then pointed to Sweeney and said, “I don’t like that boy,” and “I’ve got something for him.”
Mallard wrote that due to the threat against the lieutenant, he arrested Scoville, adding that the defendant stiffened his legs and refused to walk while the deputy escorted him to his patrol car.
Operation Street Sweep
The search warrant and the arrests of Deena Crawford, Terry Crawford and Brandon Hagan were part of the agency’s Operation Street Sweep, a two-and-a-half-month narcotics investigation.
The sheriff’s office said it identified 33 suspects and arrested 29 during the operation.
The investigation included searches of two homes and two cell phones and several cell phone ping orders.
The office said the operation also resulted in the seizure of 21 firearms, a stolen vehicle, three stolen trailers, a stolen zero-turn lawnmower and a stolen trench digger.
During the March 14 search, the agency said deputies seized 21 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia.
According to arrest reports, Deena Crawford and Hagan told deputies they lived in a camper on the property in addition to two children.
“Deena explained that both children sleep in bunk beds located at the rear of the camper,” wrote Detective Andrew Johnson in an arrest report. “The bunk beds are positioned next to the bathroom area. Once inside the bathroom area, it was discovered that the toilet was not operational and contained a large amount of feces inside of the toilet.”
Johnson added that several flies exited from the bathroom area while opening the door.
“In the kitchen area of the camper,” the detective added, “several plates were seen containing eggs shells and partially consumed food with mold. Also on the stove were several bags of trash.”
