Trinity’s late rally results in loss for UCHS baseball team

Visiting Trinity Catholic overcame seven errors and scored seven runs in the seventh inning to hand the Union County High School baseball team a 10-6 loss in the teams’ season opener on Feb. 10.

Jeffrey Brugh and Erick Lasseter each had an RBI to help the Tigers take a 3-0 lead, but the Celtics tied the score with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Ayden Androlevich led off Union’s half of the fifth by reaching on an error. Devin Diggs, who entered to run for Androlevich, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

The Tigers added a run in the sixth to go up 5-3. Kacen Thomassen reached on an error, which allowed Foster Smith, who was hit by a pitch, to score.

Trinity, a Class 2A team that was a playoff qualifier in Class 3A last season, took advantage of four singles, a fly ball, two walks and two errors to score its seven runs in the top of the seventh.

Brugh was the only Union batter with multiple hits, going 2 for 4.

The Tigers host Baker County on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. and will travel to play Dixie County on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. Union then travels to play Nease on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
