Lake Butler VFW Post # 10082 held its annual member Christmas celebration on Sat. Dec. 11, 2021 with a bounty of holiday finger foods and a visit from Santa, who flew in by sleigh for the event.

Santa arrived at the post while most of the approx. 40 people were will eating, but his cheerful presence and joyous “Ho-ho-ho” brought every young person present to thoughts of what they wanted for Christmas.

Post Commander Robert Laury welcomed the Jolly Old Elf and he and Santa told the tale of the trial run, during which Santa had scheduled his annual visit to the post.

“I just landed and left the reindeer outside to graze,” Santa said.  “That is part of the purpose of my annual trial run – to located placed along the way where I can find hay for the reindeer to eat.”

As usual, VFW Auxiliary Coordinator Barbara Fischer had been in touch with Santa and set the date and time of the party to coincide with his pass through Union County.  Each young person present got to sit on Santa’s lap, divulge their Christmas wishes and get a present from the hand of the man himself.

Many attendees got together ahead of time and decided on a red plaid theme, worn by many at the event.  Smiles and laughter were in abundance as the informal supper and visit with Santa went on.

Santa recieved a warm welcome from Post Commander Robert Laury, who may have also related what he wanted for Christmas, soon after his arrival.
Santa’s Helpers, who gave out gifts to all the youngsters who sat on Santa’s lap, were Morgan Dyess and Hannah Fischer.
Kyal Kirby and Greysen Moore came up so see Santa, but Kyal seemed a little bit put off by the experience of sitting in a stranger’s lap. Next year he will know better what is happening.
