UCHS baseball team scores 20 runs in winning two in a row

Ayden Elixson and Tucker Hardee each drove in two runs as the Union County High School baseball team won its second straight game, defeating host Lanier County (Lakeland, Georgia) 7-3 on Feb. 24.

The Tigers (2-1) were in a 3-3 tie, but took the lead for good with a run in the top of the fifth. Elixson reached on a double and scored on Hardee’s two-out double.

Union pushed three runs across in the seventh, with Elixson and Hardee each hitting an RBI single, while a passed ball accounted for the other run.

Elixson went 4 for 4, while Hardee went 3 for 3. Tra’von Lee had one RBI, while Preston Bonsall went 2 for 4.

Hardee and Blake Agner each hit one double, while Elixson finished with two.

Agner earned the win, giving up no runs in the final four innings. He allowed one hit and no walks.

Devin Diggs got the start, giving up three hits in three innings.

The Tigers entered the game off a 13-6 win over visiting Gainesville on Feb. 23, with Jeremy Miller having a big night that consisted of five RBI.

Union scored six runs in the second inning, which included Miller hitting a two-run double and scoring on a passed ball. The inning also saw Bonsall hit an RBI single, Diggs drive in a run on a sacrifice fly and a run scoring on an error.

Miller hit a two-run double as part of a three-run third inning that put the Tigers up 9-0.

For the game, Miller went 3 for 4, while Hardee went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBI.

Bonsall went 2 for 3. He, Agner and Diggs each had one RBI, with Diggs hitting a triple.

Lee pitched the first three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out five.

Baler Waters gave up two runs in three innings on two hits and one walk, while Clayton Poppell threw a no-hitter in the final inning.

Union hosts Lafayette on Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m. The Tigers then travel to play Gainesville on Tuesday, March 7, at 7 p.m.
