UCHS ends 4-game skid in softball with win over Raiders

Campbell Webb hit an RBI double in the Tigers’ 18-8 win over Crescent City.

Union County High School’s softball team scored in every inning but one in defeating host Crescent City 18-8 on March 14.

The Tigers (4-5) took a 5-1 lead with a four-run second inning, which included an RBI double by Campbell Webb and an RBI single by Jailyn Simmons. Leanne Dicks also drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, while Mia Kent scored on a passed ball.

Union led 7-6 before scoring five runs in the fifth. The first run occurred when Simmons hit a ground ball and advanced all the way around the base paths on three errors. The Raiders committed three more errors on balls put into play by Dicks, Shyla Crowe and Jaydin Alvarez, resulting in four runs.

Crescent committed 16 errors in all.

Dicks and Webb (2 for 5) each finished with two RBI.

Kent, Simmons, Brooke Burgess and Emma Handley each drove in one run, with Handley going 2 for 5 with a double and a triple.

Dicks pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up no runs, four hits and one walk, while striking out five.

Union will return to action on Tuesday, March 26, with a road game against Branford at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers then travel to play Bell on Thursday, March 28, at 6 p.m. before returning home to play North Marion on Friday, March 29, at 7 p.m.

On Monday, April 1, Union hosts Bradford at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to play Eastside on Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m.
