Two second-quarter touchdowns gave the Union County High School football team the lead, but the Tigers were never able to score again in a 28-14 loss to Holmes County in a Nov. 20 Florida Invitational Tournament game in Bonifay.
Holmes (6-5), the third seed in the tournament, scored on its first series when a long pass play set the Blue Devils up at the Union 7-yard line. Egan Segers scored on a 1-yard run to put the host team up 6-0. The two-point conversion failed.
Sixth seed Union (2-8) got a 14-yard touchdown run from Alec McClellon early in the second quarter, with Kanaan Waters adding the PAT for a 7-6 lead.
An interception by Zayden Williams led to the Tigers’ second score — a 15-yard touchdown pass from Cadenz Merriex to Jeremy Webb. Waters kicked the extra point as Union went up 14-6.
The Devils answered with a 64-yard touchdown pass by Segers. Zarius Goodman’s run on the two-point play tied the score at 14-14.
Segers threw another touchdown pass before halftime as the Devils took the lead for good.
